FAQs

Eyebrows can make the most dramatic difference to the basic symmetry and enhancement of the face as a whole.  Why not frame your eyes with instantly perfect brows that won't wash away?

Micropgmentation or Permanent Make-Up is a term used to describe facial cosmetic tattooing. Color pigments are placed just below the dermis of the skin for the purpose of creating definition to enhance the individuals natural beauty. This service is custom designed for each individual client according to their face shape, skin-tone, eye colour, hair colour and most importantly, skin type. Semi-permanent make up as the name implies requires periodical maintenance to ensure the freshness of the look.

Do you use clean needles?

Every client has a new, single use needle.  At the beginning of the treatment you can observe the needles being taken out of a sterile pre-packed casing.  On completion of the treatment, the needles are placed into a sharps container and then disposed of correctly.

Is it Painful?

Everybody has a different level of pain tolerance but most clients are completely comfortable and relaxed during the appointment. You may feel slight discomfort but the results will far outweigh this.  You may take TYLENOL prior to the appointment but NOT ASPRIN.  A highly effective numbing solution is applied before and during the treatment to keep you feeling as comfortable as possible.  Clients have compared the sensation to tweezing or threading your eyebrows.  (I have even had a few clients fall asleep during the procedure)

Is it safe if I am pregnant?
Permanent Cosmetics are not safe for women who are pregnant or nursing.  Pregnancy can cause undesirable results due to hormonal changes in the body.

How long does it last?

Many different factors play a role in the lifespan of the implanted pigment.
Clients skin type plays the biggest role in longevity and the general outcome of the procedure. Oily Skin types hair strokes may heal softer with a powder finish while drier skin types may heal more crips and defined.  Darker pigments tend to last longer.  Proper UVA/UVB protection will prevent colour from fading as quickly when in sunny climates.
Aggressive skin treatments such as laser, chemical peel, dermabrasion etc. do not get along with micropigmentation.

How long is the appointment?

Appointments are booked on a 1-2 hour basis, allowing for thorough consultation and treatment. Tattooing time varies for each treatment.

What is the appointment like?

We begin by mapping out your new brow design with makeup and use various measuring devices to create ideal symmetry between both eyebrows.  Over 5 years of micropigmentation experience and continuing education play a crucial role in choosing the correct blade/needle size for each clients specific skin type as well as correct colour choice for each skin tone.  We can also test colour choice against your skin so you can see it prior to the Micropigmentation.  A numbing solution is used during the procedure to ensure the appointment is as comfortable as possible for the client
The 1.5 hour appointment is extremely interactive to help keep clients nerves at rest.  My clients have access to a mirror throughout the entire appointment to check in and watch the process whenever they would like to.  Healing is a simple process.  There is no scabbing, no need to hide or take time off work, no down time at all.  I send clients home with a moisturizing ointment to apply throughout the following 10 days.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Most clients leave the appointment with no redness.  The numbing solution used during the appointment helps to control any swelling or redness which means you can continue your day with no funny looks or questions.  Clients even come on their lunch hour and return to work directly after the appointment. Your results will vary depending on skin type, lifestyle and the immediate and long-term aftercare of your new tattoo. Once healed (after 4 weeks), the colour will reduce by 30-50 percent. Patchiness and lightness can be perfected during your second session.

Will I need a touch up after my initial appointment?  How long will my new brows last?

Most clients require 2 sessions to have their brows perfected. Touch up appointments can be made 4 weeks after your initial appointment with the online booking system.  Clients with fuller brows may not need a touchup.  Annual touchups are highly recommended to maintain fresh looking results.

Your brow tattoo can last 1-3 years depending on sun exposure, lifestyle and skin type. Oily skin types tend to fade faster than dry skin types.
MICROPIGMENTATION IS NOT FOR CLIENTS WHO ARE:
  •  Pregnant or nursing
  • Diabetic
  • Undergoing Chemotherapy (Consult with you doctor)
  • Viral infections (diseases)

PRE-APPOINTMENT
  • Stop using any skin thinners (Vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Any waxing or brow shaping should be done at least 2 days before.
  • If you tint your brows, tint it at least one week prior to the procedure.
  • Cosmetic botox or fillers should be done 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks after.
  • DO NOT consume alcohol, caffeine or take any blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, Niacin 48 hours before your procedure, this will cause excess bleeding and may affect your results).
  • You may come in with how you normally draw in your brows so I can see what you are used to.  This is especially important for clients who desire a specific brow shape. If you are open to suggestions, I am happy to help design a custom brow to personally suit you.
  • You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle.
  • For added comfort please feel free to ask any pharmacist for EMLA which is a numbing sollution you can apply prior to the appointment to make sure you are even more comfortable. Apply it to your brows and cover brows with saran wrap for 60 min before your appointment. You can use the remaining EMLA prior to your touch up appointment (should you need one) This is not necessary however for some nervous clients, it is comforting.
  • We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores, and moles in or around the brow area.

EYEBROW AFTER CARE

After care is crucial, it is very important to follow these instructions for the full 10 day healing period to ensure proper healing and color retention. Results will vary for all individuals and we can not guarantee your results.

  • Use a gentle cleanser (lather it up in your hands) and wash your brows morning and night everyday for 7-10 days or until the flaking has stopped.
  • Make sure you blot the completely dry with a clean towel after washing.  Allow NO WATER to collect or sit in the brow area.
  • Apply the ointment provided to your brows morning and night.   A very small amount (size of a piece of rice) to each brow with clean fingers.
  • Oily skin types may be told to avoid ointment all together and allow a dry heal process for the 7-10 days.

WHAT TO EXPECT
  • DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. This can be a 2 step process. It takes time.  BE PATIENT during your 10 day healing process your brows will change and appear different from day to day.
  • Immediately after your procedure brows will appear darker and more defined and this will last up to 2 weeks . Your brow tattoo can appear more solid, hair strokes may seem to disappear and it may look wet and painted on.
  • Around days 4-5 you will experience flaking and your brows may look dry. DO NOT PICK your brows, let any dryness fall off naturally. If flakes gets picked off prematurely missing hair stokes will result and cause patchy brows which can lead to scarring.
  • Your brow tattoo will take up to 4 weeks to fully heal. When the flaking comes off the hair strokes may seem faint this is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brow tattoo. Give your brows a few weeks and the hair strokes will become clearer.  Colour will continue to change on a daily basis until all healing is complete at the 4 week mark.
  • You may experience itchiness in the brows after the 10 days for up to 2 months due to the healing process of the dermal layer.
  • Not everyones hairstoke brows can heal clean and crisp. Hairstrokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal more crisp and defined. Also for those who bleed more may tend to need more touchups as the blood pushes the pigment out while we tattoo.

THINGS NOT TO DO
  • DO NOT expose your brows to the sun during the healing process.  UV Rays can alter the pigment of your tattoo.  Following the first 10 days SPF is important for the longevity your micropigmentation.
  • DO NOT sweat excessively for 10 days. Sweat contains salt and can infect and prematurely fade your brow tattoo. Salt in the sweat may also alter the colour of your tattoo.  Moderate exercise is fine.
  • DO NOT run direct water on your brow tattoo. This is especially important in the first few days, you do not want to wash out any pigment.
  • DO NOT use Vaseline on your tattoo.
  • DO NOT use any makeup, creams, exfoliants on the brows for 10 days.
  • DO NOT go into sauna’s, pools, and steam rooms.
  • DO NOT get massages or facials or skin treatments during the healing process.
  • DO NOT go tanning and if you do cover your brow tattoo, UV rays can alter the colour of your tattoo.
  • DO not use exfoliants, retinol acids, or AHA’s on the brow area.  It will fade your tattoo prematurely.
  • DO NOT use laser light therapy on your brow tattoo. This can darken, lighten, and distort the pigment.

TOUCH UPS

Allow your brows a MINIMUM of 4 weeks to heal before booking a touch up.  This gives you the time to decide if you do or do not need a touch up appointment. It's takes a full 4 weeks for the colour to settle.

It is your responsibility to book your touch up appointments. Please keep the high demand in mind. If your tattoo comes back too faded additional charges may apply.

  • Touch ups are typically done within the first 3 months after the initial appointment.
  • This can be a 2 (and sometimes even 3) step process.
  • The first session is used to build shape and gain symmetry.
  • The second session is used to perfect the brows and add density.
  • This is a process and some clients may need multiple sessions to achieve their desired result.
  • Do not expect perfect results after the first session.
  • Darker skin and oily skin women, permanent makeup will not look as bold or sharp compared to lighter, dryer skin type clients.
  • Some client’s skin may have a harder time retaining pigment and may require additional sessions.

LONG TERM CARE

THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS as everyone’s result will vary due to skin type, lifestyle and the initial 10 day care and longterm care of your brow tattoo.
  • Use at least SPF 50 to protect your brows, sun exposure will cause fading and can alter the color of your tattoo.
  • Do not use chemical exfoliants on the brows, this will case the brows to fade faster.
  • Do not do laser your brow area (IPL etc), some lasers may change the color of the ink.
  • As the tattoo fades the strokes will get fainter and less defined.
  • Maintenance is required to maintain desired results. Touchups are done on average every 9 - 24 months to maintain you brow tattoo.
  • Hairstroke brows typically last 1-3 years.
LIP BLUSH PRE/POST CARE

Before your Appointment:

Your lips cannot be dry for the appointment.  If they are dry we will need to reschedule and you will forfeit your deposit.  You may exfoliate 3 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin.  You can use a lip scrub or create your own using a little honey and brown sugar.  For the week leading up to the appointment you must moisturize your lips as much as possible (I recommend using aquaphor).

*IMPORTANT*
Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo.  If you have had a cold sore in the past- we advise you to go to the doctor for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak.  Even if you have not had a cold sore before- I recommend all of my clients take L-lysine 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk.

After your Appointment:

Lips will feel swollen and very dry after your treatment. Apply ointment on lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 14 days post treatment. Do not allow lips to become dry. This may interfere with healed color. During the day if lips feel dry, apply a liberal amount of ointment. Just tap on skin and do not rub in.

Always use a clean Q-tip, not fingers to apply ointment to the lips area. This will reduce the risk of infection.

After lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flaky. This is normal and is expected. Please do not pick or scratch at them. This may significantly reduce the amount pigment absorption. Avoid the sun and tanning beds pre and post procedure. Be sure to use a sun block once lips are healed. Do not use any Glycolic, Hydroxy or fruit acid products on lips. Avoid direct water pressure, pools and other bodies of water, until healed. You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed. Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects and will dissipate in a short period of time. Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing.

Lips are a muscle and may require a touch-up session to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable. Some clients will yield very strong healed lip color. Others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis. Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results. Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning. If you have a history of Fever Blisters, Cold Sores or Chicken Pox, we advise you to go to the doctor or for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak. Follow all before and after instructions after all lip treatments. Lip retouch must be scheduled 30 to 45 days apart from initial season to help with color retention.

Lips heal in three stages: Too dark - Too light - Just right. This takes one month to happen. Please avoid any friction to lip area.

EYELASH ENHANCEMENT AFTER CARE

Your skin will be temporarily sensitized after the treatment and you should adhere to the following instructions for the next 10 days.

This will help avoid infection and allow time for the skin to recover.

If you apply makeup during the next 5 days following your treatment, you do so entirely at your own risk.
Healing can take up to 10 days and it is perfectly normal for small scabbing to appear on the treated area. These should be allowed to fall off naturally over a period of a few days.
After the treatment; It is also normal for there to be fading of the color during the first 2 weeks and patchy sections, as the skin is still healing and the pigment will return to the surface in about 30 days. The outcome will be subtle.  This IS NOT eyeliner tattoo, it is Eyelash Enhancement.  A soft shadowed enhancement to your lash line to create the illusion of fuller lashes.  This will not replace the use of eyeliner but instead give you a natural eye enhancement.
Instructions
  • For the 10 days following the tattoo procedure, wash the site gently and apply ointment 2 times per day
  • With eyes closed wash the site gently with gentle soap and warm water using your hands only. (baby shampoo is ideal)
  • Blot the area dry. Do not rub with a towel.
  • With eyes closed massage ointment in gently for 10 seconds and then gently blot off the excess goo. Be careful to not get any ointment in the eyes as it will burn.
  • After blotting, the area should not be oily or greasy to the touch. Allow the skin to breathe.
  • Sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights to reduce swelling.

Wait 6 weeks for full healing prior to deciding if you require a touch up.  Colour will fade 30-40%.  Most do not require one however if you feel you would benefit from an additional session please feel free to book a touch up appointment.

Cautions
  • Do not pick at the tattoo site at any time during healing.
  • Be careful not to get ointment in your eyes and use it sparingly.
